Possibly a coil breaking down. I believe that any issues with them generally surface after they have warmed up.
It might be worth trying a replacement to see if it makes a difference?

Been there with that one. Spada III suddenly cut out in France. Did all the usual checks, and there was a spark. Bike then restarted OK so off I went only for it to stop again 2 or 3 miles later.
Fuel? all seemed OK, so ran with the fuel cap off. Same again, it would run for a couple of miles then stop. two minutes later started up fine.

Replacement coil cured it eventually. It had the Rita system with a twin output Dyna coil, so coil breakdown killed the engine. With twin coils it would only cut one cylinder.

I had similar symptoms a few years ago and tried all of the aforementioned solutions, I even mentioned the problem on another forum stating that I'd replaced everything but the frame and someone replied doubting that replacing the frame would help.
I hadn't replaced everything though, a pair of new coils and it ran like a watch.

Sometimes it just has to be a process of elimination?

I'm getting the feeling that I've ended up with a selection of faults all coming together at once!

So far I've got:
Bad condenser, a leaky carb float, some muck in the fuel tank, inadequate ven on the filler cap, some potentially iffy HT leads, and a rotor arm that I should have replaced before starting out!

Trouble is that I doubt I will nail it down to one cause, but so long as it ends up working fine at the end then I'll be happy.

Anyway here's a picture from a few weeks ago - it needed taking!

Nice pic. It looks like you have the 4LS front brake on your V7 Special?

Nice bike to be sure.Hope you don't mind me saying so but that front brake lever geometry could stand a little improvement.

True, but it's still a bit grabby even with the levers like that.
The fun thing is that the rear brake is a re-purposed front brake, probably its original front one.

I think the V7 sport left the factory with that front tls brake on the back.

You'll never get it to work like that Paul, it's on too steep a hill. LOL

I'm assuming the coil shouldn't leak oil, or make a sloshing noise when shaken?
I had thought the oil was left over from over use of wd40 at some point

Will any old 12V coil work?

Personally, I'd use a new one, or at least one you know to be in GWO. Otherwise you could lead yourself down the wrong path.

Paul, check the primary resistance for the coil, measure the other coil too. Probably around 4 ohms. Just make sure any coil you fit has about the same primary resistance.

Loads of 12v coils available, Ebay can be a cheaper source.
