For all those people that are restoring or just everyday cleaning bike parts
I offer a Aquablasting service This will bring your old dull castings back to condition they were in when made, it is suitable for all enging cases and any non ferrous material it is so delicate I can clean carbs and inside engines without fear of removing any materials I use a combination of the finest glass beads of 180 micron dia (grain of salt size) and water this is boosted to between 2 bar for very delicates to 8 bar for tough stuff. can do things like pistons etc without harming them the finish when completed is a soft satin sheen it will stay clean for longer as the pores are sealed in the process All engines have to be dismantled and cleaned of grease and oil I have got a degreaser bath and can do them for you at cost . as a example the V50 engine and gearbox below was £230 kens V1000 barrel about £25 See website at or find me on Regards Edited by exsmokingbiker - 28 Feb 2016 at 21:52 |

After the treatment would you protect the new clean surface in any way.
Paint for example? Looks a very nice job. |

If painting then plain sandblast is best as it leaves a keyed surface for the paint to stick to
this soft satin finish has been sealed by the process so stays clean and muck washes off it during the summer if using in winter a bit more care will be needed to keep the salt off it I find AC90 works great

I have removed the engine and gearbox from my LM 2 and it needs a really good clean, I would love to get it Aqua blasted.
The only problem having this process done is having to split the engine and then get it rebuilt. The engine and box are fine on my bike and I can't justify doing this. Bead blasting and paint may be a good option. Firstly though I am going to try and degrease everything and see how clean I can get it by jet washing and elbow grease. |

With aqua or bead the little beads get into everything so yes you need to strip and rebuild, as no doubt Ray will tell you.

I managed to clean my V1000 engine and cases , plug all holes I used a mix of gunk then white spirit as 1st go ...take great care white spirit leaves no residue ..then Frosts marine clean took ages ....stiff brushes and an old turkey baking tin sufficed ......once sure it was clean I applied Frosts metal ready it preps the surface .... finally ....this depends what colour you want I used Hammerite silver smooth on cases and Halfords satin black hi temp on the cylinders the rocker covers I polished
Hammerite smooth works real well has to be left to fully cure the silver finish looks like brushed alloy and is durable ...I have used the Wilko metalpaing in Matt and Satin on engine cases it also is durable and looks good
