A little over priced I feel. The front brake geometry is awful, but at least it's shiny !! |

Moe and Co put hours of time to recondition/ replace/ improve each and every part of their bikes to a fantastic better than new condition. Anyone who has carried out a nut and bolt restoration will know it is not a way to make money and will always result in a loss if selling. (include man hours) Remember he lives in the USA and has the like of Ewan Mcgregor as a customer base. You and I are not really his customers....... unless you are a lot richer than me.

Think you are spot on there mate. Americans will pay $1000 for a custom seat for a bike. It is a different World indeed. The likes of Jay Leno will have a modern bike made to look like a Brough or whatever takes their fancy.
Best new / old bike I have seen is Billy Joel's Guzzi Vintage made to look like an older Eldorado looks real nice. Makes me wonder why some fabricator does not make the tank/side panel/Mudguard set for the Vintage/EV but I guess the price would be too high but it looks superb. I remember when the 1400 Cali Tourer hit us with a tag of £15,000 the cries that went up, but in the USA they sell as do the 1400 Eldorado, Audace and the Batman lookalike, having test ridden a 1400 Eldo what a superb bike. The ergonomics are fantastic, the weight distribution brilliant and finally they got the heel toe and footbrake were spot on. The fly by wire throttle like get in wrong gear the brain just puts more grunt it was to coin the phrase "Awesome" I would love to get a Cali Touring 1400 BUT cost and the fact I would have to rework the shed door to over 50" to get the thing in there lol

Don't paint all of us in the US with the same brush, as I would not make sweeping generalizations about anyone from the UK. Most of us here feel the same as you do and we wonder if Moe ever really sells any of those $40k Loops or if they're just good advertising. The Billy Joel bike is owned by Bruce Springsteen - a few years ago he was stranded on it by a dead battery. I once worked on a V7 Sport restored by Cycle Garden. The poor customer paid $17k for it, and it had issues right off the delivery truck. Gas pi$$ing out of the carbs and once he got that stopped it ran horrible. I went through the carbs and set the timing to make it run well. But there was a host of other issues: front tire was so wide it was rubbing on the inside of the fender mounts, no rubber bumpers on the underside of the seat, so the pan was chipping the paint off of the frame, front brakes needed to be adjusted, etc. CG sand blasts the engine and transmission cases, they end up rough feeling and an unnatural color. The paint and chrome looked first rate, but I was unimpressed with the rest. Mark @ Moto Guzzi Classics does a better job for less money. I've worked on a few of his too. FWIW, the Cal 1400 and derivatives didn't sell well here until heavily discounted.

Sorry Charlie, I can only go on what I see online. They look like works of art. My Eldorado was put together by Mark and oh how I wish I hadn't sold it! My Ambassador will be a bit more personalised and will be up and running this year after I finish my Convert. It was supposed to be just a clutch change, but things have got a little bit out of hand. It is going together nicely now as I get on top of the work. I painted the frame which led to a chain reaction! |
