I wish everyone that has low-speed running issues could ride my Stelvio to see how well they can run.
I can go right down to 2000rpm in 6th, and it'll pull cleanly and smoothly from there right through to the redline, no hesitation, hiccups, roughness, etc, just silky-smooth pull.

I endorse Docs findings.  I have not ridden his Stelvio but I have flashed the ECU of my de-catted re-piped 1200 8v and determined it would ride down to 1600rpm in 3rd and pull smoothly from there to red line. Not something I would do ordinarily but demonstrated what is available.

I used a paid-for flash tool & map because I preferred the close support given by Todd at GuzziTech.  He even has a video to walk you thru the total process.Big smileThumbs Up

Afternoon Chaps!
Can anyone give me a contact telephone number for Dave who sold the Corsa Conta Finebauforge Fuel compensators please? --- or a direct personal email address?

I have had one for some while it has been good but I want to 'adjust' the enrichment and the intructions that came with it are contradictory. I spoke to Dave when I bought it a couple of years ago but cannot now find a phone number and the Finebauforge web site does not now come up.

Thanks and regards
Ted

Doc,
Looking at your posts of 08 Dec and 20 Dec I would like to try the 'remap' you suggest -- cautiously and careful not to bugger up anything I can't revert to!!

Initial question -- where can I get the lead to connect to the diagnostic port?
( the bike's a 2006 Breva 1200, 2 valve heads)

While an ex RR aero engineer and pretty fair with mechanical things -- having a VW Passat 2.0 litre PD injector car -- I am HORRIFIED with the vast over complication of modern electronics so will appreciate clear advice on this process.

If there's a way I can 'talk' to you directly as I attempt it I'd appreciate that.

Best regards
Ted

The diagnostic port is a 3 pin Fiat fitting. You can get the adapter from EOBD, and a USB to EOBD.

Dave of Finebau fame has dropped off the radar. I don't think anyone has contact details.

Hi Ted.
Happy to talk at some point.
I'd recommend reading through the excellent GuzziDiag guide a couple of times (link below) first, and jot down any queries you might have, then when we chat you'll have a head-start.
http://www.thisoldtractor.com/moto_guzzi_quota_guzzidiag_howto_-_a_tutorial_for_beginners.html

The guy who does the Map(s) I use (and recommend) doesn't have any for the 2-Valve models as far as I know, so you will need to source one elsewhere.
Send 'Beetle' a query here . . .
http://griso.org/contact.html

Get the Cables from Lonelec, guaranteed to work, and excellent service.
You might find them elsewhere, for one or two quid less, but lots of people doing that have had issues.
http://www.lonelec.co.uk/Guzzidiag-Melcodiag-3pin-Interface-Cable

As Brian says, the Diagnostic Connector is a 3-Pin Plug, usually under the Seat area somewhere.
On the Stelvio, there are two unused (i.e. not connected to anything) identical 3-Pin Plugs under the Seat, one with two wires, one with three.
The two-wire item is the Diagnostic one.
Breva may well be different of course.

The one on the Breva is to the left of the auxiliary fuse box usually.

Brian.

Many thanks for your comments too.

Until I try the remapping I'll fiddle with the FbF unit.

It has been pretty good set about half way but it smells incredibly rich at idle and I want to trim it a bit leaner --- although I am not sure if that will serve any purpose as I am uncertain if it actually does anything at idle or low revs.

Then if I remap I'll either delete the FbF unit or set it to zero enrichment.

Kind regards
Ted

Melonman!

Thanks. I will indeed get hold of Beetle.

And, no the exhaust is not stock. It had the current exhaust on it when I bought it, the make of which I cannot see. All it has on it is E2 9095 stamped on the riveted on aft end cone.
I have had it off and 'pressure tested ' it there're no air leaks and the fitment to the exhaust pipe seems air tight.

I am not aware what difference this exhaust will make to the overall fueling and characteristics --- I'll ask Beetle ' but your comments would be welcomed.

Irrelevant it might be -- But is does sound rather nice!!

Cheers
Ted

Sorry, I know nothing about the Finebau unit, except that I think it fools the ECU by altering the air intake temperature sender signal to make it seem colder.
If it smells too rich it probably is.

Which is what will totally f**k up your Engine in the long term.

Throw the Finebau Unit in the Bin, but thump it with a sledgehammer a few times first, so it can't be used again . . .

Have I stressed enough how much I loathe these things?   LOL

Hi ted
I asked about the exhaust because beetle will.
Does it have a baffle ?
Even remapped these bike run better with a baffle in.
You may as well sound good as well as look good.

I'll second that.

'Open' Cans, and a Map to suit may well gain you a couple of Horses at the top-end, but you'll lose much more at the bottom end.
On the road, low-mid range Torque is what these Engines are all about, I wouldn't sacrifice any of that for a tiny bit at the top, which you'd very likely not even notice anyway.
