Hi Chris
I found tiny rust spots on the selector drum I think you can see them on the picture ,
the drum was stuck after being unused for 20 years, the selector pins were not engaging the preselector so no gears.
I polished the drum with some fine emery cloth rebuilt and all seems OK now.
gearbox then stripped to get cases blasted .
stripped the swinging arm and drive unit today for blasting as well .

cheers
Chris

My recently finished Monza had a gearbox selector issue ie. only 1st and 2nd with any consistency, which I traced to the spring loaded detent underneath the breather. I had to, literally, hammer it out from inside the casing and then operate on the crud both on the detent itself and inside the breather housing.
Based on the above I washed the internals in petrol thinking there may be the same crud on the shafts etc. although like yours they did look good. Finished off by pouring a full litre of gearbox oil over the lot and leaving them to soak for a couple of days. Gearbox now appears to operate as it should but until DVLA sends my V5c I can`t get out on the road to find out. I can`t even buy a number plate without log book
One thing I did notice is that the selector forks look to be locked with split pins as against roll pins on mine

Great pictures and I'm sure that we are going to see a fabulous machine when it's finished. Did you manage to detect any reason why the gearbox was stuck in neutral?
Best Regards - George
Take care - be aware

Photos always make a bike look better than it really is ,
it had been painted wrong colour a bit too orange and the tank has bubbles in the paint
Gearbox was stuck in neutral so i had to take it apart to investigate the problem anyway
etc .
So I thought bugger it ,strip it and rebuild the whole bike
Keep me occupied over the winter months  Smile

Didn't look too bad.  Why the full strip down?

Hi everyone ,
Just started my winter restoration of  recently purchased V50,
Its quite tidy all complete but just at the stage of wanting a decent rebuild.
I bought it as a non runner, will need a seat as the base is rotted, the rest of the bike is sound .
Bought the Paint for the bodywork and taken frame to LSN Coatings for powder coating I will have it back next week
