On the other hand, there would be no need to 're-invent the wheel' as it were, if one bought the proper brackets. They are not expensive.

No grinder or hammer but deep pockets required. 

I bought some 38mm diameter cast aluminium brackets for about £80.00 from Germany which I think suit my 1970's bike better. Complete with rubbers to fit between fork and bracket, distance from centre of fork to headlamp bolt 115mm. 

I will post some more photos when fitted.

Dunno if these are exactly the same but do look good.

V7 Classic Black and gold was the best. But green & black was nice too. Now blue is in!
