Hi

Lots of searching but lot of links don’t appear to work so I have a big request please.

Can anyone please point me towards a very very simples idiots guide to checking the rotor and stator on the bench.

I am but a simple country boy with bugger all understanding of things electrical but I am learning.

Ta muchly it would be very much appreciated

Ian

What tools have you got?

Someone else was asking exactly this a couple of weeks back.

One has a multi meter and is not afraid to use it.

Saw that post thanks, that’s one of the links that doesn’t work, but found it anyway, and it was far too hard to understand and on the forum following posts were lost on me like a foreign language.

I was wondering if there was a Janet and John jobbie anywhere preferably with pictures or some brave soul fancied producing one for the benefit and wonderment of us electrical luddites.

Big ask I know but would be great for the future.

Cheers

Ian

Is something actually not working ie charging properly ?
In which case we can focus our help on that problem.

Or is it just for your education should the need arise?
Either way there'll be an answer I'm sure

Plus education as I have no idea what I am doing.

Thanks for getting back though much appreciated.

Just found this gonna have a good read after doggin, it is by the Godly One, only hope I can understand it Shocked

The tests of the rotor and stator winding resistances are mentioned on the other topic, and basically that's all you can do on the bench.

The majority of charging faults are due to wiring problems and the regulator. Sometimes you find a faulty rectifier.
The main problem with the alternator is worn brushes which don't make a good connection with the slip rings on the rotor.

Thanks again

Had a good look I’m afraid it all beyond me don’t even know what a slip ring is.

So I’ve nearly finished putting the engine back together so I’m gonna bung all the electrical bits back on and see if it goes.

Sometimes you just gotta know when you beat and I’ve never understood electrics. If it don’t go I’ll start again but at least everything will be in place and a battery on it.

But I will change every wire and connector  because I do love an adventure.

Hopefully the frame will be going back on today if she leaves me alone long enough.

Sorry if I frustrate people on here but I just don’t have a scoobie when it comes to electrical tings, but I do loves an adventure I does.

Cheers

The slip rings are the copper bits on the rotor which the brushes push against.
