So I fell in love with a 2011 stelvio about 11 months ago at Arnold's in Burton (a guzzi dealer by the way). And I now find out it has the flat tappets . When I went to part exchange it I was told it's worth £1500 🤬 . I paid £6000 for this from Arnold's to now find out I've lost £4500 in under a year . Surely they would have know this issue would cause me a problem . So now I'm after advice . Do I cut my losses and get rid ? Or do I get the roller tappets done and try and get some money back ? It's a real shame as I love the bike . I also feel let down by Arnold's

Do I remember right did Brian say once it's not a safety issue so not a recall. (?)
Me if it's that good I'd look at getting the conversion. And, dealers will usually buy 2nd hand for as cheap as possible but resell for as much as possible so no surprises there. |

It was never a recall, but there is an extended warranty on the flat tappets. Provided you can jump through loads of hoops, Guzzi will supply the parts FOC, however you have to show full Guzzi service history. The good news (?) is that the conversion parts are less than a grand, so you would be far better off doing the conversion and selling it at full market price - or keeping it. But a Guzzi dealer would certainly have known about the issue and was dishonest in selling it on without doing the upgrade. But, are you certain the upgrade wasn't done? Do you know for certain it wasn't? But the other bit od slightly good news is that there were 3 attempts at getting the flat tappets to work. The third attempt was by far the best, which will be what would have been in your engine at the manufacture.

Your gripe should be with the dealer ... especially if they are Guzzi dealers. The tappet issue has been the biggest issue with the 1200 bikes for years - they MUST have known about it. I would almost be tempted to go to the small claims court to get them to do the work for free.

Agree ...they should have told you about the tappets not having been rolerised.
