Don't panic not a "what tyre should I use" question.. Well it sort of is but with different requirements.
I use Lasertecs on the G5 so I do. And have done for a long time after I gave up on Macadams. 4:00s or 110/90 I can change a tyre at the side of the road so I can. Yeah, woohoo. Problem now is I can't do it with the latest tubeless type. ( I fit a tube ) Nor can the tyre shops easily. They don't seat like they used to. So can you give me suggestions of tyres that spoon on like they used to. Cheers Min |

if its any concellation, my bicycle wheels and tyres have also gone 'tubeless'.... because I don't want to fill tyres with gunk to close out punctures, I still run tubes (& carry spare tubes). Sadly the shape of wheel rim and the tyre tight fit makes it almost impossible to get it off without carrying bigger/better tyre removal tools.

The BT46 seems ok but agree the tubeless with tubes are harder to fit

It may be a tolerance issue. For example, Avon Roadrider 2s are notorious for being made at the bottom limit of the circumference. When combined with a bike at the top end (notably Moto Morini 3 1/2 Grimeca alloys) they can be virtually impossible to fit. Mine took 4 separate fitting shops, 2 front tyres and over 100psi to seat.
You might have more luck with another example of the same tyre. Also have your rims been recently powder coated? That could be eough to cause trouble.

Sorry this doesn’t answer your question Min but I’ve just fitted a Metzeler Roadtech to the front of my Spada/G5 mongrel and that was very difficult to get on and took several attempts at 100psi to seat. The Maxxis M6103 I’ve got on the rear was nearly as difficult.

Tyre is a noun. Tire is a verb.

Min I fitted a bt45 120/110 to the rear and bt46 100/90 to the front of the converts wire wheels with tubes ok just used plenty of tyre soap and a mixture of short spoon type and michelin long type tyre levers . Being alloy rims i also used a pair of those nylon rim protectors but they do get in the way at times. Yes being tubeless tyres there harder to fit over tubed type tyres.

I was trying to think how to address the inane and pointless comment without being excessively rude about Spams. This is good.
