    Posted: 20 May 2015 at 18:58
Well, when I got the (excellent!) Battalax s20 Evo's fitted, the very helpful man noted that the front wheel bearings were up for replacement as they have both gone notchy (back ones are OK).

Please can anyone advise me of interchangeability or part numbers and a reliable source, thanks  - I have seen V11 and 1100 Cali's on Fleabay but I do not know if they are compatible.

Thanks in advance.

Pete (all wet but happy I now have tyres that work...)

I just take the bearings out and go to a bearing company that way it costs little money

if you get the wheel out and look on the bearings the info is there you can order some from Gutsibits or pop to a bearing supplier by the way DO NOT BUY the el cheapo ones they will not last....ask the bearing specialist for recommendations

Bearings ordered this morning from Gutsibits, but unfortunately he (Guy) could not tell me the method of removing the old ones as the wheel is one piece with a spacer in it, so using a drift will be a challenge.
Not as straightforward as the old Tonti Guzzi's but once the wheel is out again I guess the dog will see the rabbit.

I have a12 ton press but I do not think it is wide enough to get the wheel in..............

If that is the same as the V11 , which from what you say sounds similar look in the Greg Bender "This old tractor" web site there is a comprehensive list of manuals Guzzi rarely do things as a one off on their production bikes. There will be a circlip one side and yes you can get a drift (or screwdriver) down the 'ole to knock it out, Take Ray's advice and warm the hub I use an old tea towel wrap it around the hub then boiling water it is enough to allow the bearing to come out without damage to the hub carrier

You should be able to get the spacer enough to one side to drift the far bearing out.

Easy Peasy job!

Very straightforward and self evident when the wheel came back out.

A good application of heat helped a lot - no circlip either....

Just waiting for Mr Postie now..........

Good top tip got from Ray use the Loctite bearing seal on the outer edge as now and again they get kinda slack depending how you feel they go in.. I have found the V11 Le Mans goes through bearings in abt 20,000 miles yet the old V1000 that carries far more weight to rallies ect the bearings are more than double that
Every tyre change on the V11 I tend to check bearings and certainly every other tyre it needs them The V1000 on the other hand I struggle to remember when it last needed bearings really it was counted in years ....no idea why that is unless it is the wheel type ...much larger wheels /tyres and I did go to the trouble of getting spacers checked and a new rear one as there was an issue with wrongly made rear spacers

All done!
No issues and the outer races were a good tight fit in the housings; all nice and square so I am a happy man.

There were not "real" seals on the old bearings so there was a good chance that pressure washing in the past by a previous owner probably saw the grease off, hence the notchy bearings.

I found the T3 California ate front wheel bearings though I used it all the time and in all weathers......handled appallingly when they were on their way out........

People who use a pressure washer near bearings should be shot - at least twice.

This is speshly a must-never with old R-series Bee-Em's, in fact it's good idea to put a good smear of grease around the outside of the seal lip too so there's some chance of stopping water and crap there.
