I have finally found a company who can reproduce the ratchet starter cog that meshes with the quadrant gear on the kick down shaft on a Lodola. I am awaiting costs but am wondering if anybody else would be interested in one of these?
The cutting of the cog would be by wire erosion but they can also replicate the ratchet mechanism if required to produce a new unit. Let me know if anybody is interested. |

Prices for the ratchet cog are shown below. If anybody is interested please let me know.
To use existing end covers, spring etc and just produce ratchet and internal drive housing works out at: £258.0 if needed urgently or £223.0 if you can wait for heat treatment as part of another order. To produce 3 off sets complete with all parts you are looking at £210.0 per set. |

Hi, yes I'm interested, my Lodola 235 start lever doesn't always engage....haven't look inside yet but I guess I need these bits and am not unhappy if I can buy them for £210 ish........what do I need to do? Do you have anybody interested in a third set so 3 can be produced? If you want a chat I'm 07833 368016....

Hi Ben, I have been lucky enough to buy the last of old stock from an Italian guy who had one of these ratchet cogs left. I have not had anybody else who has shown any interest in the ratchet cogs so if you want one and you don't know of anybody else who does then you would have to order a one off at £258 if you don't mind waiting for the engineering company to order some more hardened steel. I am happy to pass on their details. Please let me know.

Hi 'old son'.......thanks for that, yes it would be good if you could let me have the name of the engineering company...can you post a name and number on here please or text it to me on 07833 368016 ?. Can I ask another question.....the rear petrol tank fixings on my Lodola are missing. I know I can get hold of the rubber bushes but the parts list shows a separate bolt and rubber bush on each side but the tube running across between the two fixing points on the frame suggest that a long stud has to be used. In fact I can't figure out how separate bolts could be fitted......can you throw any light on what the correct fixing method is? Your advice would be much appreciated!
Cheers, Ben Tomlin

Hi Ben, Details of the company who quoted me for the Cog works are:
Dennis Grech Director CTL/EDM (Wire Erosion Specialists) Green Street Green Road Mile End Green Dartford Kent DA2 8EB Tel: 01474 708621 Fax: 01474 708948 Web: www.ctl-wireerosion.co.uk With regards the rear fixings to the tank, I persevered and fitted two bolts but next time I remove the tank I might use a piece of threaded rod with a dome nut on each end. |

I don't know if either of you use the google groups guzzi singles forum but there appear to be a few Lodolas on there. You might find extra people interested in your scheme there. By coincidence a friend of mine told me last week that Vincent owners club charge £240 for a quadrant so Old Son's prices are in the ball park

Thanks for that Old Son (and Jerry), will get in touch with Dennis Grech about the cog and the idea for rear tank fixing is probably the best way. Will also try looking at the google groups singles forum!

Hi Old Son, spoke to Dennis yesterday and he was extremely helpful and even sent me photos of your worn out ratchet........just a thought but now you have a replacement do you want to dispose of / sell the part that Dennis has? Had a thought that if I could acquire your part I could ask Dennis to rebuild it for me rather than send him my now totally clapped out part!

Hi Ben, you are welcome to use the parts I have left with Dennis. He will have the two side plates, the springs and levers for the inside. He will manufacture the centre and the cog.
I also found Dennis to be a great guy, it would have been nice if others wanted this part and we could have given Dennis some work. At least people who read this section will know where to go if they need one. |

Thanks, that's really appreciated! Just had a quick word with Dennis and he's put your parts on one side for me pending me finding out what the problems are with my ratchet.......it's possible the centre part on mine is not broken like yours so may not have to be made.......if I do have the same problem then he will use what he can of yours to remake the ratchet without me sending him anything!
Thanks again.....Ben

You can get the cover off for a look in less than 10 minutes.

I do some work for a company that has a 3d printer
would it be worth getting a company to scan in and 3 d print the parts then getting a company overseas to make a batch of them ?

The problem is that the cog is hardened steel. The steel is hardened then cut to shape afterwards. Cutting hardened steel is a specialist process. The company I found use wire erosion, high voltage is passed through a wire and the sparks actually cut the steel.
