This is really interesting thread, thanks for bumping it up again. Only 32 MPG sounds dreadful, that is very depressing after all the effort you have made. Perhaps the carb slides are worn out, but could be anything I suppose. If it was me, I would give up trying to sort it out myself and send both carbs off to Ducati Paddy and ask him to give them a proper going over.  I think he charges £295 for a pair, which may sound a lot, but when compared to all the time and grief you have spent on this issue, it could be money well spent.  At least then you would know its not the carbs. It's something to think about anyway.

The people at Eurocarb are also very helpful.

Paul...if you have put filters on a bike that was carburated to run without ( as is the case for the LM 1 and 2) then you also need to get a throttle slide with a larger cut away to get the best results. The main jet only covers the hi end of the rev range...idle , slide cutaway, needle and atomiser ( needle jet ) and main jet is the sequence.
Slides can be made larger with carefull use of a file..the larger the number, the larger the cutaway and the more air it passes. Mine have been increased to 6.5's as the bike is running foam filters.

The Dellorto Tuning Guide hidden somewhere in the FAQ section will help understand things.

Regarding the low fuel consumption, is your "pumper" working correctly? If it's pumping too much fuel, that won't help.
There is a way of checking them, but I can't remember how many "pumps" to deliver how many cc's of fuel.
To do this, detach the carb, get it a source for the fuel, then place a jug in front of the intake side, open and close the throttle fully ??20 times. Then have a syringe to hand (available from ebay) and put the fuel from the jug into it and measure how much fuel you have. If it's too much, screw in the adjuster on the back of the diaphragm say half a turn at a time, keeping a note so you can always get back to your starting point, or if it is too little (unlikely) turn the screw out half a turn at a time, then re-check.

There was a very recent threads about pumper carbs and how to disable the pumper should you sowish.

I don't know if this is of any help? If not, I'm sure somebody will be along soon to advise.

It takes a brave man to start making adjustments to the slide with a file. Would it be the end of the world to put the standard trumpets back on ?

Well you don't want to hack it any old way.I've got an accurate vernier gauge , a steady hand ,some good files and diamond sharpening stones. The pair took me about an hour of careful work.Alternatively you can spend around 40 or so pounds on a new slide made to the spec you want.As I had some virtually as new spares  I gave it a go and it runs better.
