Hi , my 18 mth V9 bobber has developed a chattering noise when riding and when staitionary, you pull the clutch in and it stops, it doesn’t do it all the time (been deaf doesn’t help) and being a none mechanical person do you think twiddling with the cable might help, looking hopeful for some answers /quick fix as I’m of to RIAT in fairford Gloucestershire on Monday with bike plus trailer for 8 nights under canvas

suppose it depends on what you mean by chattering. Most Guzzis have a rattly gearbox to some extent which dissappear when you pull in clutch - it is part of the charm of a Guzzis to draw states from the public when your sitting at lights. My T5 is quite quiet but the Norge rattles away quite happily

Speaking of funny noises though it has reminded me, lately I've been hearing a faint metallic tinkly noise, imagine a piece of aluminium cooking foil has got stuck onto your bike somewhere and is fluttering in the breeze, that sort of "crinkly" noise. Just realised however that when I went out on the bike to get groceries yesterday (this is the Ural), nothing! But there was a difference compared to hitherto - I wasn't towing the trailer... I wonder what it is - |

I noticed this immediately on my new-to-me V7.ii and the brand new V7.iii I test rode. The clutch is dry single plate like a car, there will be a thrust washer (actually a bearing) that pushes the clutch open to disengage. These always whine. You don't hear it in a car unless it's completely shot because it is surrounded by bodywork. When released the thrust washer is not in play and stops whingeing.
