Do any of you helpful and knowledgeable people know a source for the pins used in the 5-way connector?

I have checked with the excellent Rex's Speedshop but they cannot find them either Cry

Try asking Alan Osborne of AO Services.

I cut mine out and soldered the wires together. Those connectors get very tarnished with age.

That is always the best permanent cure.

I needed to repair the harness on my hot touring spare so permanent connections, though better, would not be great by the side of the road.

Al Osborne was very helpful as always but I eventually found another solution and was able to extract the original pins with a home-made special tool and re-use them.

the only thing ever failed on road , other than punctures was the LucasRita, went back to points, I found on the V1000 better top end, fuel cons and brisker pickup on the oem points ...... as you may guess NOT a fan of Aunty Rita

You didn't mention at the outset that this was a "roadside repair", with consequently limited options. We can only reply to what is apparently written.

Rita has left Ken with a bad taste, and doubtless others, it can go wrong for stupidly simple reasons but nevertheless can put people off.

The biggest issue with Rita is if it dies it is unrepairable on the road, they often destroy the coils, they can be got easily tho' the plug does get a bit iffy I stopped mine playing up using silicon to seal it. BUT it is still a compromise on acceleration curve and top end vs tickover.

There was an article in a very old Gambalunga that in essence pointed out the points are not actually worked hard and are a better option on a basic road bike. As long as you do the tiny mod to the one set of points plate to get the full adjustment they actually work very well. As I noticed the "Old Gal" starts way easier than it ever did on Rita, the acceleration is most certainly "brisker" and the top end is better.....Even with Rita you have to look at it and lube the adv/retard now and again ......Some of the newer Electronic stuff is very good BUT very very expensive

The Rita has no mechanical advance retard mechanism.

I was thinking the same. My Spada has a RITA but came with the old system in an icecream tub - I'm sure the advance mechanism is in there.
I don't find any issue with stable idling or high speed running.

Rita does not normally use the mechanical advance, it has it's own built in, but in the unit I had fitted to the SPIII, the amount of advance was limited, so to get the correct setting for higher revs, you ended up with a rather lumpy tickover because it was too advanced.
The only fault with mine was a dud coil.
Brian.
