When fitting the much awaited screen to my Breva today something odd came to light.  I'm hoping someone here will know what it is and how to remedy it. I fitted the screen as per the instructions kindly supplied by a fellow forum member.  I placed it on the middle setting initially just to try it out for my height.  I'd been advised to leave a gap above the headlight as it may help reduce any buffeting.

So here goes in pictures then my 'problem'discovery will be revealed. (sorry if the pics are too big I don't know how to resize them)  I'll start by saying the screen is new old stock, the arms are straight and the bike has never been in an accident.

First up I tried to achieve an equal gap above and around the headlight, but notice in the picture above how the lower left of the screen is much closer to the headlamp than the other side.  On the central setting this caused an annoying vibration buzz at around 4000rpm, as the screen hit the headlamp.

Looking down on the two arms you can see how the one on the offside one appears closer to the instrument binnacle than the one on the right. Notice also that to get the even gap above the headlight as shown above the screen must sit lower down the nearside post than the offside one. Now here's the kicker. On further investigation I discovered that if I were to offer up a straight edge to the third allen bolt on the offside headlamp ear I could almost reach it. (Below)

But try the same on the opposite side and....

No Chance!

Something clearly isn't straight, it's either come from the factory like this or there was a shonky build up and PDI by the dealer.  This may explain the occasional twittering sound I get from the instruments rubbing on something during tickover? And is it me or does the instrument binnacle look canted slightly to the left and not level in relation to the plastic base where the three circles are?  Looking at this picture I've just realised where my mysterious 'tweeting' sound is coming from actually, look how close the rev counter is to the plastic part below it.

So something is off. Only by a midgets but enough to make me want it put right.  Any ideas what this is guys and how to remedy it?

Puzzling - but I don't remember mine doing that

The only thing I can think of is to slacken everything off and give it a good shake, rattle and roll and see if that evens things out

Looking at your last picture, the gap between the indicator stalk and the bars is also different. Are the forks twisted slightly?

I'm not sure Brian how would I check that? And more importantly if they do happen to be twisted how do I rectify it?

Do the bars look square to the front wheel? When riding is one bar closer to you?
Straightening is a case of slackening the clamp bolts in the yokes, twisting to get it square and retightening. Best put a chick under the sump first to take the weight off the wheel. Also slacken the wheel spindle.

Blessed if I can see it. The 'wrong gap' or the twist.

If it helps at all, my Ural's screen, a very similar set-up, is also a bit wonky. No amount of fiddling has sorted it out yet. It goes on only one way and that's that.

Big smile

It's a funny one then  Ermm

Yes the bars are square and the front wheel points in the correct direction relative to them, but the headlamp ears seem very slightly biased toward the nearside.  With that being the case and the way the dash twitters against the plastic at tickover (sometimes but not always) I'm beginning to think the person who uncrated and built it up didn't quite get it right.

I can live with it for now, but now I know it's there it'll nag me till I get it sorted.

Here's one of the wrong gaps Mike. Look at the gap on this Guzzi publicity shot just above where I've marked 'This bit' then compare that gap to the one on my bike in the pic from the earlier post.  None of it's earth shatteringly bad but admittedly I am a bit OCD about my bikes. LOL

The other gaps tend to support the headlamp ears being out by a little. Well at least it's not the forks then, and the headlamp ears should be much easier to shuffle around I suppose.

Your bike looks much like mine but alignment alters a bit when you reassemble the front end. Try reassembling each time there will be a variance on gaps . I greased the steering bearing and repainted the dash rear its all a bit fiddly getting it to align but make sure the upside down headlight bolts brackets from the triple tree are ok. Buy a laminar lip (ask for screw fitting from supplier) it fixes the buffetting
