Thanks for all of that Aaron.  I'm still waiting for the manual fuel tap in case the electric one is an issue. Once that's on I can delve further. I do have fuel smell issue. Mpg is about 38 now but should it be better?
Due to italian electrickery I am saying nowt. Despite nearly giving the Vstrom away the honda has gone...

real daft observation but fuel filters are 1 way make sure it is correct way round the fuel filter is same as a car one but got an external filter for my V11 Le mans from motomecca way less than guzzi, the fuel pump internal or external is also same as a car part Haydn listed the alternative parts in that part of the forum ....

Cugsy,

38 sounds normal to me.  I get 34-38 If I have the motorcycle loaded with a big windshield, 40L Kappa cases, and am cruising at about 75-80.  If I have nothing on it and am going 50-60, it will get 40, maybe 42 mpg.  I think that depends a lot on your riding style and what map your ECU has.  I am not sure what map I have... there was a sticker from a place in the Netherlands called Misano Motors on my eprom, with EV written on the label in pen.  The fuel petcock had been replaced with a manual valve when I bought it.

No idea about the ECU map Aaron. I can live with 38mpg if its fairly common - its got 48k on the clock. Small steps for now. The manual tap first then the rest. I have a fuel pump to replace the existing one which might be from year 1..
The fuelling was checked and tweaked by a good mechanic last year. The plugs are a bit sooted up and she does get a good run every now and then. At the moment I do have trouble starting in the cold weather. I thought about running 10/40 for winter to see if she turns over easier. It worked on the Jeep!
