Just seen this article which will be of interest to members, having seen footage of trips in Europe. Some of this could get the owner/user of the camera a fine of thousands of Euros. Just beware. Full information here.

Begs the question of the legality of a helmet camera whilst skiing (apart from risks of repeating Schumacher’s injury) in Austria or Switzerland.
I note that Google street view is available in Zurich & Salzburg, but all faces & number plates are obscured, as usual.

In NL you can film whatever you want in public spaces if it's only for personal use (not to put on youtube)
Here is a link to a page of the dutch ANWB (like the german ADAC) It is in Dutch. "Niet verboden" = not forbidden (allowed) "Verboden" = not allowed "Ten zeerste afgeraden" = strongly advised not to use Gemany: no specific rules but strongly advised not to use |

Well, strangely enough they do but at the same time they follow the legislation in force in each respective country which covers said equipment.
Like signage to say it's in use, and certainly here in France, the cameras can only cover the property which the cameras cover and not public areas such as streets, pavements, neighbouring properties etc. Dash cams etc are used all over Europe and the footage of collisions is provided to insurance co's and the Police as required, but many countries here thankfully have laws protecting our privacy, so the dash cam warriors you see posting all over the internet - and the UK has more than it's fair share of those - tend to get short shrift here in Europe as that use of the footage is largely illegal. |

Probably why YouTube is full of it over here.
Tho’ it’s mostly pissed up Russians, and Americans throwing Harleys up the road at the first sign of a bend..

This all seems related to just dashcams, not helmet cameras, mobile phones or video cameras. Just don't mount the camera to your car or bike and am guessing you should be fine... not fined??? :D

I don’t agree that it’s where the camera is mounted.
It seems to be entirely related to taking photographs or video of people without their express consent, and, potentially, without legitimate reason.

It is entirely down to that, GDPR and all that. Where the camera is mounted is of no consequence.

So does that mean no one can take a photo or video in a tourist attraction, or while walking down the road?

As a side note, in the UK, the police can demand to see any dashcam footage, but need a warrant to take any helmet camera footage as the rules regarding it only apply to vehicle mounted cameras.

This topic was posted to make others aware of the rules in Europe, to save anyone getting into trouble there. For information only. If anyone thinks those rules are wrong, take it up with the appropriate authority in that country, no point in arguing here.
