Hi all
i remember reading on here a thread about raising the forks on the LMIV to about 1 inch above the triple tree to help improve steering angle, something about the geometry from the 16" to 18" wheel. I have an 87 LMIV with 18" wheel. I tried and tried but cannot find the thread. So - is this true? Cheers Ben

I've played around with the fork heights on a couple of bikes and found it worthwhile.
I don't know if it's the shortening of the wheelbase, or the change of angle, but I have a hunch that the only way to find out is to give it a try. As long as you keep the alignment right, you'll find that you can decide for yourself how you like it. Cheers, the other Ben.

The steering angle and trail measurement will be what makes the difference. However, just from memory the problem arose when the smaller wheel was introduced as the steering geometry was still set for the larger wheel. So it may be that what you have is now the best with the larger wheel. But try it and see.

I remember this too and so said the magazines of the time, who lambasted the 16-incher on th MG's as racing inspired fashion following nonsense. |

from what i remember of what i read, the original MKIV forks were slightly longer to accommodate 16" wheel, so when they went back to the 18" wheel the forks where longer than needed? memory is hazy.

I don't know. The parts lists don't help, but there is a difference in part number between 1988 and 1990. The workshop manuals sometimes give dimentions, but not in this case.
