I appreciate any help with this mystery!!  New V7 Special. Only 1400 miles on it. Started it and it will only stay on if I have a rev going. If I let it idle, it dies....starts up normally...dies on idle. I tried *warming * it up..no change. Even changed out fuses..no change. Now it won't even start (but battery is fine).   Can't get an appt with the Guzzi dealer for a month and i want to RIDE.
Any thoughts?
thanks
deb

I can't offer a solution but it might help others diagnose the fault if you can say how the engine dies.

If it stops suddenly that might suggest an electrical fault.

If it stops slowly that might suggest a fueling problem.

Good luck with getting to the bottom of the problem.
V7 Classic Black and gold was the best. But green & black was nice too. Now blue is in!

You can't get an appointment with your dealer for a month? Is that because you're tied up or the dealer not being helpful?

It sounds as if the fuel injection TPS needs resetting which is really only something the dealer can do, unless you know someone with the computer software to do it.

Did you buy it from a dealer....warranty ?
Find out who the importers are....assume Piaggio...try contacting them direct.....email.....
If you bought it privately...it may be worth trying an auto engineer...repair shop.....it is an internal combustion engine after all......
Mite be worth draining the fuel tank and trying fresh petrol....you say the batteries fine so I assume the motor is cranking but wont fire.....check the plugs.....when you switch the ignition on does it sweep and can you hear the fuel pump prime....any error codes on the dash ?
Many of these bikes in the UK are fitted with aftermarket fuelling modules to smooth out poor low rpm running.....google 'finebau'.....
Guzzis are bikes which usually require a higher level of owner input than other marques unfortunately !
good luck.....Kate...

NB Drdeb is in the USA so I guess dealers are fewer than UK but if it kinda worked before you checked the fuses, take another look and daft as this sounds check the kill switch is not "off" But a new bike under warranty you cannot do a lot other than the obvious As Brian pointed out it seems like the TPS (throttle position sensor) needs looking at .....

Once you have it running ( check the kill switch as suggested) ride it very, very hard and make sure you only use 95 octane petrol. Doing this cured mine.

thank you for the comment.  It dies suddenly when hand taken off the throttle (as soon as the rpms go down)

Yes, from a dealer less than a year ago. Definitely under warranty...just got to get it to them but first available for both of us is a month out.   Yes, Piaggio.
No error codes on dash.
thanks for the input!

The bike was dieing before i checked fuses...i was just desperate...changed them all and the situation still the same after. Signs point to TPS...but of course that will require dealer.

Does the V7 use a Stepper unit to control the Idle (controls an Air Bleed into the Inlets, by-passing the Throttle Butterflies)?
The CARC models do, and they can suffer problems with erratic idling/stalling if the Stepper Unit is faulty.

As it's a new Bike though, I'd contact the dealer first before probing anything yourself, tempting as it is . . .
Doc out!

I don't think the V7 uses a stepper motor. Can't see one listed in the parts list. (Last page).
