Just wondering how many are still about ? Believe 200 found themselves in the famous Black and Gold livery. Any early photos would be nice, here's mine some 20 odd years ago.

Yep, I've got one (W reg). I may have a photo of it when my mate bought it 30 years ago but think I'll settle with posting one when I get it back on the road next week.

This was mine in the 80's, dunno if it was a C&H model, but you can see the similarities..... I got it from a shop down a back street in Brighton, who's name escapes me, but they always had one or two Guzzis in their showroom.

I own the remnants of UNM197W, which had 186,000 miles on the clock when someone kindly set fire to it back in 1997. I'm assembling the bits for a rebuild. it started life as a black and gold bike, although it was white after it's early nineties rebuild.
We CAN rebuild it!

gold one as remember seeing black under the red had been painted, can't
check now as sold off tank and sidepanels years ago. My mate has one,
on the right in not very good pic here..

Obviously there's a yard of slack in the (heavy) throttle & clutch, no brakes and the fuel pipe kinked so I got home on one cylinder but I'm sure these are just teething troubles!
Good job I'm not off to Le Mans on Tuesday. Oh, hang on . . .

Spookily identical to my situation at that time!

I only asked a Bank Manager for a loan once.
He had known me and my family from the day I was born
Birmingham Municipal Bank it was.
He said no as I was a bad risk cause I was single.
Wanted £275 to buy an Austin 1100. I was 17.
Never liked Banks since.
Never again gave them the chance to make money out of me.

I borrowed £500 towards my T3. The bank manager was always very friendly and he gave me some very strong advice which I always remember: "you should go to Africa, young man. There's nothing left in this country. Rhodesia is the land of opportunity." He was probably only about 40 but seemed ancient. A year later Rhodesia was Zimbabwe. Good advice? Hmm.

Blimey yes, I remember them. Going back to the early 80's Funny little place. They were a Honda main dealer. I remember being there as an 18 year old newbie, and gawping at the newly released Honda CB900F2 in red and white.

I've owned it since new (April 82), I believe it to be the last one sold by C&H. It's only done 19k miles. I've changed a few bits but tried to keep it sympathetic to the original. I have changed the 'silencers' , replaced the brake hoses with goodridge ones, put in Lucas ignition, changed to stainless bolts, added head protectors, got a Corbin seat last year which is more comfortable and the original is preserved - I still have all the original stuff. I did strip it down in about '85 and had the frame powder coated because when I was cleaning it the paint was so thin that it wore down to the metal! If I hadn't done this I doubt it would be around still. Still have the original number plate fitted with the 'I choose to use Coburn and Hughes' slogan on the bottom of the plate.
|
Posted By: Oldrat
Date Posted: 20 Sep 2015 at 08:42
Hi Browny
Re the rear plate, is it a pressed aluminium one? I say that because I've tried to have one like that made up, but failed miserably because I wanted the C&H banner printed across the bottom.
Anyone know where I can get a pressed plate and printing done?
The nearest I was able to get was a perspex plate with the C&H banner.
My black and gold runs well but is looking a bit tired and in need of a refresh but I'm not staritng on it until I get another project finished, I don't want two Guzzis sitting in bits at the same time!
Meanwhile I'll carry on collecting original bits, like a round key which I recently found. I'll ride and MOT it until I'm ready to start on it. Sounds like you are really enjoying yours.

no its all Le Mans 1000 (actually came off the first Muzzi Moto race bike :) ) I think the standard one would be too long in that position... I used a cut down loopframe engine mount bolt as i found the standard gearboxbolt was only just long enough, especially if you want to keep the breather pipe mount in that position
http://s10.photobucket.com/user/GUZZINEIL/media/GUZZI/Le%20Mans/WINTER%2008/SIDESTAND/PICT0010.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
I tend not to leave it unattended on the sidestand as it is of the suicide variety :) but ok for getting it out of the garage or parked up for photos...

Well . . . I bought mine from a mate just over a year ago for a bit under £5k and thought that I done okay but the provenance of a bike I'd known for 30 years maybe clouded my judgement. For a genuine Le Mans I'd say the range is between £3k for a munter to £6k for a really nice one.

Indeed, though I have recently sold mine. Do I need to change my "handle"?

I see this one has sold. I did ask the vendor to pass my details on to the new owner (it being only one digit away from mine on the reg number) but nothing heard from either.

Hi all,
I've just today joined the forum because few a weeks ago I bought what I believe to be an original C&H Black and Gold LeMans II.
The reg is OPB 2W, registered in 1981, and has about 49k miles on it. As far as I can tell it looks to be original, in terms of paint on the tank, fairing & frame, including original surface rust on the frame !!!
It's MOT'd and I've been out for a couple of rides on it. Brings back memories, as I had a black & gold LM2 back in the very early 80's, just after they went on sale.
I need to get in it for a service, as there are a few minor issues to get fixed, e.g stuck choke which is making it run a bit rich on 1 cylinder, tachometer not working, some electrical gremlins, and a suspect fluid leak from the foot brake master cylinder.
Once that's all sorted there are a couple of minor cosmetic repairs on the lower fairings, then get the lafranconis re-finished. Boy, do they sound good though 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Then I think it will be fully sorted, not restored, but a very good, clean, original example, which I will try to take to some of the Guzzi club meetings this or next year
I'll have a look at how to upload photos and then get some uploaded

Well LeMansII you'll note from the post above yours that I asked for my details to be passed to you. Clearly they weren't. You see I have OPB3W which I've known for over 30 years and is a n original C&H so I'd say it's a pretty fair bet that yours is too.
We'll have to try and get them together sometime for a photo.
