G'day all.
Very impressed with the wealth of knowledge on this forum - so much relevant and detailed MG advice and tips.
I'm slowly resurrecting my 1980 1000SP. I ran the old beast for about 15 years until reduced circumstances (a late undergraduate) took me off the road until better times. That was twenty years ago.

I'm at the cleaning-up and taking stock stage at the mo' - and many hours checking the Forum posts.
Essentially I'm just looking to get the thing back to road legal condition for now - the cosmetics can wait...

I'm looking for advice on the correct needle valve and seat size for my DellOrto VHBT's -I guess questions such as this should be posted in the relevant technical section?
Thanks in anticipation

Hello and welcome!

Needle sizes, etc: - this any good to you?:  http://www.thisoldtractor.com/guzzitech.dk/gb_en_technical_carburetor.htm

thisoldtractor.com has got a great step-by-step for VHB30 carb overhauls: http://www.thisoldtractor.com/moto_guzzi_loopframe_carburetor_rebuild_-__vhb.html

In fact, that whole site is an absolute goldmine of information.

Edit: doing up/rebuilding 1000SP's seems to be a bit of a current thing, so hopefully one of those guys will step in a note-sharing capacity.

The workshop manual has all the carb settings.

The square carbs as fitted are now well beyond their sell by dates however you can fit the later phb round carbs you will need the smaller inlets and rubber intakes and need to get some stepped studs made ....i fitted them to my V1000 , 76 vintage they are an awful lot better carbs Pete at reboot sells them and you can get spares for them from Eurocarbs they are very helpful on jetting and worth getting advice

I'm running VHB carbs on both my bikes with no problems whatsoever. I'd get yours going before laying out cash on new carbs.
As said above, the settings are in the manual - my SP is running standard jets except the mains, which are slightly bigger as it has K&N oval filter.

Thank you for the speedy replies, folks.
I'd found This old tractor through this forum, but not the particular page you referenced. Thanks again.
However, I'm still in the dark. The VHBT has a float needle valve and seat (the VHB 30 doesn't (?)). But, looking on Eurocarb, I see there are several sizes:

9436 Dellorto Needle valve and seat 150 – 225

No ID on the original, anyone know which one I need?
Much obliged.

I have to agree with Ian,.I have VHB's on both of my Loops and had them on my Laverda GTL. No problems at all, and as stated in Guzziology, you can clean up the flat slides with some fine emery on a surface plate or plate glass. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum, Eurocarb show needle jet 4559 as a separate part, would this on it’s own sort your problem?

It might be worth giving Eurocarb a call(if they're working at present)they are normally very helpfull.

Thanks Dave
Unfortunately when I call Eurocarb they seem to be permanently engaged. I'll keep trying, though...

Firstly welcome !!
To be honest I never bothered to try & ring Eurocarb I simply used email.. That was before the latest situation of course. I found them most helpful and bought my manual chokes there..
If I am just researching "who has what and at what price" I find email preferable as I am unlikely to feel obliged to make a purchase on the spot..

Or maybe I'm just tight ...Wink

Cheers,
Adrian
