Hello. I have now owned my 2014 Stevio NTX for 9 weeks, and I am returning from a trip to Italy where I visited the Guzzi museum.
The only issues I have had is a blown spotlamp and water drops inside the front indicators.
Oh, and when hot the exhaust burbles and pops as though fuel is exploding in the exhaust pipes. Do they all do this?
The bike now has 2500 miles on the clock. I swapped it for my Breva v1100abs which I had from new in 2006 and covered 30000 miles on. I think I am hooked on Guzzis now.
What other problems does the Stelvio suffer from? Or is it bullet proof?

The popping etc sounds like the issue I raised on here after buying my first Guzzi (Norge 1200) a week or so ago. It's on the over run when the throttle is shut right off. Apparently it's a trait and nothing to sorry about.

i seem to remember someone saying it is due to the ECU controlling the fueling to cope with EU emission laws.

Can it be adjusted away? What about a Power Commander - anyone tried one?

Thanks Mike. I will give finebauforge a try. I have noticed poor fueling at low revs on my bike as well as the popping exhaust on overun.

I have nothing to compare my bike with as it's my first Guzzi. It does pop back on total throttle closing, but I've not noticed any of the more commonly reported fuelling problems at low revs. Of course, now I've read this thread I can guarantee paranoia will set in

My norge stopped popping as much after replacing, (no fitting, as it was completely missing from my Friday bike) the exhaust seal from the left hand bank to the 'Y' collector under the bike. Now its only a slight burble.

That made me smile ... my 'Friday' bike was a Triumph Sprint ST1050. An immobile disaster of epic proportions. Few bikes, in the history of man, have caused so much grief, stress and expense. Even the dealer sent it back unrepaired and a bill for £330.00 stapled to a note that said they had no idea what was wrong with it. I kid you not, if ever a bike was built at 4.59pm on a Friday it was that Sprint.

I have emailed a load of questions to Finebauforge. Their website does not list a device for my year of Stelvio, so fingers crossed.
I will share what they say.
Does anyone out there know how the Finebau differs from a Power Commander? They do seem good value? Shame Guzzi cannot get the fuelling right themselves!

Does the Finebau replace a standard part or is it fitted in addition to what is already there then?

The Finebau kit works but there are some Guzzis in the range it is not suitable for it is a plug in system so that is pretty much it. The V11 Le Mans for instance will not benefit from this sort of kit.
A lot of FI bikes will have that dull pop sounds like a fart in the collector box , as indeed do many V Twins it is a lot less noticeable on a 4 ...smaller pistons yadda it is due to the fuelling emmissions thing yes it can be almost dialled out and it is WELL worth spending a wee bit of time making very sure all the exhaust joints are utterly tight and I find utilising the silicon type exhaust paste does make a difference DO NOT just wind up the nuts 'till they snap as some poor fool did, if you are not sure of the torque settings use standard ones for that bolt size there is NO advantage to over tightening and many disadvantages.

This is especially true on the exhaust gasket as too tight it ceases to function as with many vehicles they are designed to be crushed but not flattened.

Thanks Ken. I think the exhaust is fine, but the noise is likely to be unburnt fuel exploding inside when the exhaust is hot. I do not dislike the noise, but I am sure it means the engine is running way too rich, at least on over-run. I am hoping that by resolving this it should make the bike run smoother, more economically, with more power and less noise. Am I right?

I've got a 2014 Stelvio NTX.
Yes they all pop & bang on over-run to a certain extent as standard, it is down to the emissions apparently. I was more worried about the low-speed running (around 3K RPM) so looked into the options.

I looked at getting a Power Commander last year but at the time they weren't making one for the later models, don't know if this is still the case? I then decided on the Finebau.
The first unit didn't fit (the leads were too short) and there was no real guidance on how to mount it (turns out that this was because I was the first person with a Stelvio to fit the 2 in 1 unit and it is now a photo of my bike on the website showing the suggested mounting location). Although the leads were too short for a permanent fixing I attached it in a temporary way just to try it out and initial results were quite good, it certainly seemed to make a difference at low revs so I decided to try a second unit with longer leads. This was a disaster and the bike would only run on one cylinder, disconnect it and it ran fine but with the unit in circuit it was effectively a single cylinder. I spoke to the manufacturer and he said it couldn't happen(???) so I decided a refund was the way to go.

Since then I have found out that there are a few things that make all the difference and in my opinion make any further modification completely unnecessary.
Always use Super Unleaded.
Make sure there is no slack in the throttle cables (mine were really quite bad).
Finally I had the first annual service carried out at a dealer who really know what they were doing (rather than someone who was just a franchised dealer). Riding home from the service it was like being on a different bike. He (the servicing dealer) said that out of the crate they (Guzzi's) need setting up whereas some dealers just put them together and send them out (like mine had).

I have since heard good things about the latest fuel-mapping from Guzzi and am going to have it loaded the next time I pop into the dealer.
