Hi and Happy New Year to All. Been working on the V50 project today and turned my attention to the seat. As you may gather from the subject box the base is disintegrating, full of holes especially towards the front and masses of rust adhered to the foam. So by way of the forum I'm asking if any body may have a suitable seat that they may want to sell. Also does any body know if the foam is available for the seats used on the 1979 year bike.
Best Regards - George

Seats are now getting extremely rare for any of the V50s
TLM have them listed second hand occasionally
I have, in the past, had new foam made at a local upholsterers but even they are now getting thin on the ground.

Worth checking Leightons they make many complete seats at reasonable prices

I'm not sure Leightons would have seat bases for the likes of a V50 but worth checking as you say.

If it was mine I'd probably have it bead blasted to remove the rust, then have someone (if I couldn't do it myself) weld reinforcing plates to cover the holes then finish off with fibreglass. Then get Leightons to do the foam and cover.

It is possible that Leightons would actually recondition the base as well.

Can't remember which bike, not a Guzzi but Leightons did make me a steel Base using old Base as pattern. Good job well pleased

Thanks to every body who has replied so far. I am currently thinking of going down Ian's suggestion, i.e.the bead blast route and then stitching in some plates to re-establish the shape (fortunately I have my own spot welder) and finish with a fibre glass coat. Depending upon the outcome I'll probably have a word with Leightons to discuss the finishing touches.
I was also debating the merits of purchasing a cover off ebay - but the shape of the foam could be a problem (the knackered foam has been doctored to take a humpy seat but the base is definitely standard V50 mk2).
Thanks again for the replies - George.
