Hi,
I hope everyone is enjoying riding their Guzzi's in the wonderful sunshine. Recorded 35c on the way home today. A little niggle has developed on the V7, I'm not sure if it will be permanent or just a manifestation of the extremely warm weather. Twice in succession in the morning the bike has not wanted to catch on start up, well not without several attempts. My last attempt this morning I used the choke lever. She fired up and ticked over as usual, no requirement to leave the choke on. Has anyone else experienced any such problems? Regards DWC |

not a choke tis a cold start device ...subtly different in warm weather flick on to fire it , flick off rarely needs much time

I know it's no a choke, it seemed the simplest word to use in describing it. I've never had to use it before.

I had the same problem with mine shortly after I bought it and that was after a long ride on a very hot day. I think the heat from the engine caused the fuel to evaporate when I stopped for a few minutes. The cold start lever just holds the throttles open a bit so probable the engine got a bit more fuel and away it went.

V7 Classic Black and gold was the best. But green & black was nice too. Now blue is in!

I always use the cold start lever and do not touch the twist grip until she has fired up. Once she is running I push the cold start lever off. Do you let the ECU light go out before attempting a start?

Never used the cold start before, maybe I should start. Always wait for the lights to clear before start up.

What's the reasoning for leaving the ignition on for 30secs?

And shaking the bones and throwing them at the front wheel.
Depending how they fall will give a good indication whether it will start or not. |

No such problems with my V7ii. Starts on the button and I have never followed any of the above rituals or protocols - including switching the ignition off and on immediately-or maybe I have just been lucky! Does run rough for a minute or two when cold and has an erractic idle when very hot occasionally but soon settles again.

I was once shown by Paul Harris at Corsa Italiana on his computer that there is ECU activity going on for 10 seconds after the engine is switched off. It is best to wait 10 seconds before removing the ignition key.
