Then there is the following :- Rear rack (Heppo & Becker & Givi) Hard luggage (Guzzi, Heppo & Becker, Givi) Front mudguard extenders (Pyramid, Power-Bronze) Handlebar guards (Pyramid) Radiator Guard (Pyramid, Evotech) Extended windscreens (Guzzi,Givi) Engine bars are (Guzzi, Heppo & Becker) Engine Guard (Pyramid) Cylinder Head guards (Guzzi, Mistral) |

Wait till they work out wheels could be an optional extra.

I’m not sure I understand that. All my bikes have always stood on centre stand and front wheel.

When you grew up with just a rear wheel stand, anything between the wheels is a bonus.

I’ve had bikes with a centre stand; on those either the front or rear wheel could be off the ground by gently pressing the seat either way. Certain BMWs spring to mind.

I had a look at my 2014 V7 to see why the ‘centre’ stand was so far rearward and it is positioned below the swing arm pivot where the frame is very strong. If it was more forward it would have to attach to the lower frame rails which would probably bend.

I remember, going back to the Commando I had, one of the first on the road here. Centre stand was mounted on a frame cross tube. Guess what, it twisted in use, resulting in the stand not getting either wheel off the ground, and it hung down dangerously when riding. I reported it back to the factory and they redesigned it, mounting it on the engine plates. They had a few frames to change under warranty.

On the subject of luggage I have Givi on my V1000 been there since the mid 90's totally waterproof easy to lock on & off the bike. The 45L pannier takes 2 lids.
My EV has Hepco side boxes and they are bloomin awful, they look nice But allow water ingress and the only solution is pay for liners !!! A Full Face lid only just goes into the 40L pannier. If i'd have had a choice I would have bought wing racks from e-bay fitted them to the EV and just had the Givi luggage. Alot depends on what "look" you want as well as practicality. But in my opinion having used bikes to rally with the Givi is far better helmets fit easier, no water has ever got in and we have been in some real downpours. |

From memory, R100CS is in a unique situation – he has to move his bikes along a corridor having 90 degrees bends, if the centre stand was truly central so the bike could be balanced with both wheels off the floor, like you can with the old boxer BMW's – it could be pivoted around on the stand feet. Usually Guzzis with a centre stand have a lot of weight on the front wheel which is a lot of effort to lift up, and anyway the stand is not central, so it can't be steered around the corridor's corners. Why, you may ask? Something to do with secure storage, I think, the bike can't be left outside. ![]() |

Ah, thank Mike, I understand now.
I have a vague recollection of doing something similar to turn a bike around, balanced on one leg of the stand. Maybe my old Honda 250G5. Long time ago…

Interesting both the EV and V1000 rest on the front wheel but to get it off the floor and onto the rear wheel I pop an old battery into the top box and it pivots easily.
Every bike I have had leaves rear wheel up and rested on the front wheel. Have to say many vintage pre war bikes had a rear wheel stand that clipped to the substantial rear mudguard and an awful lot also had a similar stand on the front mudguard. I think due to rough roads and tubed tyres back then you had to know how to fix a puncture at the side of the road.

All my airhead BMWs had that neutral-ish balance on the centre stand. The amount of fuel in the tank usually dictated their bias. It's really useful when doing maintenance jobs.

My BMW R1100RT is the first motorcycle I've ever had where the center stand can be used to raise either the front tire or the rear tire. I've been riding since 1976. This is very rare.
