Thanks Ken.
x 10 to go from kgm to Nm. Or 9.81 to be exact. The values in the table will be for clean ungreased threads. Lube the threads and the torque values have to lower by about 1/3 as the threads slide over each other easier. 20NM for M8 and 12NM for M6 is usually about right - but of course nylocs make a nonsense of any torque value! Just realised...these are for the original V7 AndyB

There are often folk asking about them came across these ones, The V1000SP-G5-Convert ones are straight from the workshop Manual I scanned it they are in Ft-lbs and Nm. My wrenches are NM and Ft-lbs. Never used a torque wrench on small stuff. Taught old school, I did actually check once or twice and to be fair they were all spot on. The wheel bolts and head bolts need the wrench. Head bolts live in oil.
For those new to spannering oil fill/drain plugs useful to use. You can now buy a 10-150 ft lb wrench for as little as £22 tested to +-3% which is same as a £90 one from high st auto shop

Torque settings are always based on bolt diameter and material (like if they are screwed into aluminium). So it matters little how old the list is. If that is the bolt size and material it will be the same. Torque setting is usually 'unlubricated' which is not quite the same as bone dry (degreased); it allows for the very thin film of oil/grease found on new bolts. Fasteners are usually assembled without oiling, especially if using thread locking cement. Do remember MG are metric and do make mistakes converting kg-m (or Nm) to ft-lb - note they got "ft/lb" above. (it's not foot per pound but foot x pound). Italians have never worked in feet and pounds. |

1 kg.m is 9.80665 Nm (call it 10) - it's acceleration due to gravity. 10Nm = 1kg.m - near enough for a torque wrench.

I think the oldest continuous motorcycle manufacturer can be allowed to live a little in the past, no? Not forgetting the V7 has been around since the very early '70's... At least the fasteners are metric - my imperial kit is for the Bradford alone

Does it matter what the units are as long as you know which you are using? |

It helps to think about what the unit means eg Standard bag of sugar hanging on the end of a 1 foot socket wrench = 2.2 ft-lbs; but it's a struggle to balance all the bags of sugar needed to get the gearbox nut off

And doubling the length of the wrench in order to half the number of bags of sugar doesn't work as the frame gets in the way.
