So, having roasted my toes all through last summer, I decided the cat would have to go. All the bits finally arrived and my Mandello has now had a diet
![]() The new Mivv headers are both significantly lighter and also remove that horrible weak spot where the cat is held on with the friction bolt and is susceptible to snapping/cracking the pipe (pics below, ignore the dirt!). Even better, the OEM shields bolt straight back on so it doesn't lose the overall look and protection for the downpipes. I really like the original can so have kept that for now Have hooked up an UpMap and used the GCorse headers with original silencer map. Only rode back from the workshop so far (with the original map in place) so no idea what performance difference is (if any) but the sound is slightly deeper and no or not much louder. Have a long trip tomorrow so will see if I can spot any difference but pretty sure my melted boots will be happy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Well, that was a pleasure
![]() A lovely change in tone without getting too loud. Used my commute (93 miles each way) to test the changes in Tour and Sport. Outward trip in Tour - always the easiest mode, there was a significant change in the 4-6k rev range. Acceleration was much more linear and power fed in smoother than previously. Other than that, the ride felt cleaner throughout although it was always pretty smooth. Return trip in Sport - harder to spot any large difference here (was pretty responsive previously) but it feels like the throttle response is sharper across the range. Takes a bit more getting used to as can feel jerky until you adjust your riding wrist response! Other than that, the significant weight difference and loss of boot-melting heat make this a good deal

Just had a quick search, around £280?
Not a ridiculous price is it! What does the Re-Map entail, is it a GuzziDiag job, or does it need something else? |

The headers are pretty cheap (even with the import duty) but nice quality. The remap is through an UpMap device which you plug in and use yourself with a phone app. Sadly that more than doubles the cost (around £400) but leaves you the option to reinstall the original map if you need to revert back to the OEM headers. The first map is included in the price (guzzibits sell the device with the cable included) but you may need new gaskets. I did provide those to my garage just in case but the originals were still good. |

The price of 'progress' I guess, but worth it in the long run I suppose.

Trying to get the jump on the 15k service, I swapped out the original air filter (still very clean) for a DNA filter. It was only a tenner more than the throwaway service version so seemed worth it.
Also seems to make things run even smoother so that was a bonus. Loving this bike

Just in case anyone is considering the MIVV change, have also now tested extensively in Road mode. I didn't use it previously as it always felt like the engine was being stifled but the header and remap have made it much more interesting! Would even recommend it if you prefer throttle response to be totally predictable (in a good way).
Mind you, just coming up to 18k miles and had a brilliant test ride on the new BMW R1300RS so the times might be a changing'

18,000 miles?
That's barely a third of the way to fully run-in for a Guzzi . . . My 2009 Stelvio is up at 65,600 miles now, just keeps getting better. Do your research on the GS 1300 before deciding, they're not all they're cracked up to be, reliability-wise. Ask a Dealer about the Rear Shock for starters . . . |

Funny you should mention that, just waiting for the delivery of my replacement shock under warranty (rebound has bounced away, Tigger-style).
Another part to add to the list of warranty replacements (in order of general bigness: coolant hose clamps; clutch slave seals; front brake discs; engine!).
No problem with the dealers or MG's response to any of the above and the Mandello is a fabulous bike to ride (when the suspension is working!) but reliability is definitely a subjective experience... |

Oh my. The new shock has been installed and I didn't just get the love back, I'm pretty sure it is waaaaaay better than the original!
That may be because I hadn't noticed it deteriorating over time (until it got really bad) but I think it really is better. Maybe the first Ohlins unit wasn't up to spec? |
