My last Monza became something of a ball ache but like your bike it suffered random flooding, especially the left side. I never managed to pin the problem down as the carb had been fully refurbished, so I replaced it with another one after throwing the original across the garage in frustrationConfusedConfused
My flooding was of a similar nature to yours but I thought it wise to remove the head and barrel rather than leave it to soak in oil for a week. By doing that I was able to confirm that no damage had been caused but I did find that the piston rings and bores were `dry` (very little oil residue etc.). On reassembly I not only lubricated the bore and piston but also dripped oil onto the crankshaft and big ends for good measure. Obviously I changed the engine oil and then ran it for 50 miles before I changed it again just to be on the safe side.
My advantage over you was that I had no other projects on the go at the time LOLLOLLOL

Thanks Paul,
I've put some 5W oil in & will let it soak  a while.. The float valves & needles were new on both carbs quite recently as a "while I'm at it" measure, maybe I'll try and find the old ones......

Thanks Chris,
To be fair the bike had not been any trouble recently (famous last words!) so I guess I can't really complain, it is over 40 years old after all...
You are quite correct about other things on the go. Ignoring the V50III project there's the MSS with the self-adjusting clutch (working on that) & the Venom that starts when IT feels like it which now has a leaking fuel tap as well..... At least I have the BSA if I actually want to ride somewhere........... !!
Ahh well......
I'll drop the oil tomorrow on the Guzzi and see what that looks like....

Cheers,
Adrian
