Yesterday was sweet. My mate called for a ride out and we cruised the North Norfolk coast, stopping at the Kingfisher at Walcott for one of their superb lunches.

850-T was going beautifully with noticeably less engine noise after doing the tappets and oil changes. New winkers working perfectly, a good charge without the heated gear running and the freshly polished stainless exhausts twinkling in the spring sunshine. Just as it should be..

So when I pushed her back into the shed in the evening, there was a loud Tick-Tock coming from the rear as the wheels went round.
On the stand there are about 5 clunks per wheel revolution and I cant pin down exactly where it's coming from, but suspect the UJ. Would that be a reasonable assumption?

I have put Morris Oils AG90 in the bevel box and gearbox when I changed all the oils and the gearbox was definitely nice and smooth and quiet with really good gear changes and neutral finding.
I use this instead of EP90 because it is sulphur free. Sulphur eats "Yellow metals". Not knowing if there are and bronze or Brass bushes in there I opted for this to be safe.
I really can't imagine that the AG90 has done anything adverse, but that's the only thing that has changed.

Sad really as this was the longest ride this year since I serviced it.. It's been fine.

Have you tried the old, screwdriver to their method to pinpoint the source?
The T3 gearbox is designed for EP oil🙂
Good luck.

If it's like the later T3 etc., and it seems to be, no oils come anywhere near the UJ, which has sealed greased needle rollers I believe, and so is the support bearing a sealed ball race.

To check for excessive play, put it in gear on the mainstand, and rock the rear wheel backwards and forwards to get an idea how much it turns before engine resistance is encountered. From memory even when everything is relatively healthy it can be quite a few degrees. See if you can reproduce the clonking noise, and if it's in the UJ area (front of swingarm right side).
