So, just back from a 6 day European trip. Fantastic weather for 5 of those days, one absolute torrential downpour for the 1. Sadly that one day was enough to fill one of my rear indicators with water Cry

So, I have replaced both rears with the Oxford Nightrider sequential indicators. Loving the look but omg what a faf!

According to the workshop manual it's a fairly simple one bolt, one connector job but it took me an embarrassing amount of time.

First, remove the inner tail end (2 bolts and 2 screws. Why not 4 bolts??). Then fashion a couple of blanking plates 'cos the OEM fitting takes two holes. Then drill out the holes to M8 instead of the original M6. Then try and find the connectors, follow the clipped in (badly, the clips fell out) wire to the rammed collection of wires tucked inside the metal sub frame. Then unplug the connectors which were obviously attached after the wires has been threaded through a hole smaller than the connector. So then cut the wires so you can take the indicator off.

Fit indicator through blanking plate and through the enlarged hole, threading wires through. Crimp connectors to wires on both sides but don't crimp connectors yet. Test flash rate to see if you need the included resistor. Flash rate fine, crimp everything together. Thread connector through more sensible part of the subframe and get ready to start on other side.

At this stage there is an optional step, depending on whether you remembered to re-thread the washer, nut and bolt cover onto the indicator wire before finalising all the crimps. Should you be that blindingly stupid, feel free to undo all the connections 'cos of course, the final connector plug won't go through the nut.... Angry

Repeat the above on the other side, reassemble tail unit. Test indicators one final then realise that changing both sides means you will, in fact, need to put the resistors in.

Undo all the above, redo with the resistors added. Feel free to include the optional step again, just in case you have any self-respect left.
Also allow an extra 10 minutes to try and jam the now significantly larger bundle of electrics into the space provided in the sub frame.

I'm sure it would have been easier to replace the existing indicator relay but after all of the above I was kind of determined to make it all work!

Feel free to use the above as a 'How not to' guide Big smile

Maybe a stupid question.
Were the indicator not under warranty any more?

Sensible question Smile

They may have been covered but for the price of a new set and the ease (or so I thought!) of changing them, I couldn't be bothered to try and claim under warranty. Pretty sure MG would insist indicators are consumables in this case. Or gone down the Suzuki route and said 'don't use the bike in bad weather'  LOL
